Earlier in the week, a high-quality download of Grateful Dead’s first Fare Thee Well show at Chicago’s Soldier Field came online. Since then, audio from all three of the band’s final Chi-town gigs have shown up here or there, but now New Hampshire radio station 93.5 WMWV has compiled them all in one easy-to-stream location. Listen to each night using the Soundcloud players below.
Though the band tapped into some magic on the first night of the stretch, which saw Trey Anastasio filling in for the late Jerry Garcia, Rolling Stone reported that some of the chemistry slipped away during the July 4th show. Perhaps that was because the band was focusing on their later material; everything felt right again when Grateful Dead dipped back into the classics for the final concert of their storied career.
Listen to and/or purchase each night now:
The Fare Thee Well performances will be released on November 20th in various purchasable formats, including a box set featuring 12 CDs and seven DVDs or Blu-ray discs capturing the entire three day experience. There will also be a double-CD comprised of highlights from the gigs, plus a double-DVD or Blu-ray containing the entire July 5th show. Lastly, a complete audio and visual keepsake of the band’s final performance will be available on a four-CD set packaged with either two DVDs or Blu-ray.
